PixelWhimsy Notes

This software is kid friendly by isolating most of inputs outside of it. However, it's definitely hostile to adults. I'll provide some notes here.

About

This is more or less a drawing sandbox for kids, and those who want to be ones. Along with basic painting tools, it also includes various interactive and wild features to draw something completely out of this universe.

Input stealing

The kid mode, which is a quite extreme variant of input hooker (sounds pretty wrong now) that will prevent any inputs outside its window as much as possible. If you have to use Task Manager at one point, you might have to move it outside its window range. To quit, by default you use "Qq" (Shift+q and then q).

Settings window of PixelWhimsy

The settings window shows the option for Kid mode. If you ever want to enable it, make sure that this PC is not used for some critical stuff to avoid losing unsaved work.

Evaluation

Trial version is limited 30 days, but you can still activate it with typing random amount of numbers, with few attempts that is. It's no longer possible to purchase a license for this software either.

Download

The actual copy of this software is no longer available on official website since this page was written. Plus, the way the software was provided on official website is quite horrifying. You were basically downloading some sort of manifest file that would download everything else. However, now when that's gone, how will you get a copy of the software?

Main PixelWhimsy window

If you see this screen, you should be ready to start drawing. If you see squares with red crosses, you're out of luck.

Luckily, I did preserve 2 versions at least.

You can find the copies of this software on Internet archive. There are at least 2 versions I've provided: 1.2.0 and 1.3.0.1.

Take note that 1.2.0 will most likely work fine on virtual machines running XP and 7, but 1.3.0.1 did not work inside of them in my case. Also make sure to install XNA Framework 3.1, since that's required to make it run.

Demo

Take note that the video footage I'm providing may contain loud noise and content that may cause epilepsy! You can check the video here.

Cursed writing during PixelWhimsy overload drawing process

Try to avoid setting your volume to the maximum, as this could get easily cursed.

Hint: The key combination to launch the abomination shown in the video is Ctrl-Alt-Shift-S.
